THE FRENCH resort of Le Touquet could be just 15 minutes flight from Lydd airport after a new firm offered a route across the Channel.
Rye-based company 2 Jours has been set up by local man Graeme Foster and is offering a variety of flights and packages.
Le Touquet is a favoured coastal get-away spot for Parisians and claims to combine old English charm with French elegance.
Mr Foster also plans to build the business up so he can bring more French visitors to Rye.
He said: “I have lived on the East Sussex/Kent border for many years and didn’t know that France was so quick and easy to get to.
“Flights from Lydd have been operating to Le Touquet for a long time, but I decided to put a variety of packages together to appeal to those people who want something different.
“For sports enthusiasts, it is perfect for golf as it boasts a championship links course, and it also has the 4th largest tennis academy in France.
“Combined with excellent hotels with sumptuous spas, it’s the perfect destination for short breaks and romantic getaways. We aim to suit all tastes and budgets with the packages.
“It is the ideal destination for lunch in one of the many fabulous restaurants, and the designer shops offer luxury brands at a fraction of the cost of UK prices.
“Plus there’s the added bonus of bringing back fine French wines from your trip.
“The plan is to have the web site in French in the next three years to bring French tourists from Le Touquet and its surrounding area to Rye and other local towns to further bolster our own local economy.”
To celebrate the launch Mr Foster has offered two free flights to Le Touquet in a prize draw on his website www.2jours.co.uk. To enter, all you have to do is register on the website stating what activities and itineraries most appeal to you.
Lydd Airport is currently embarking on an expansion programme which will see a new passenger terminal.
Since the mid-1990s, Le Touquet’s villas have become extremely fashionable among architecture lovers throughout Europe.
