THE ex-partner of a man found dead in a toilet block in Alexandra Park has this week paid tribute to him.
Andrea Waite, 23, who was in a relationship with Damien Walker for five years, described him as her’ soulmate’.
Mr Walker, 36, who lived in Quarry Hill, St Leonards, was found dead on Monday, May 19 in the men’s toilets by the bowling green in Alexandra Park.
Police officers and paramedics were called to the scene at around 11.20am. Paramedics tried to resuscitate Mr Walker but he was declared dead.
It is believed he collapsed while in the men’s toilets.
Andrea, who lives in Lichfield, Staffordshire, said she was in a relationship with Mr Walker, who went to The Grove, from 2007 to 2012.
She added: “I was pretty shocked when I found out about his death. It is so unbelievable what’s happened. Damien was a kind and caring person and very family orientated.
“Although he wanted a family of his own, he never had the chance to have one. He was liked by many, very popular and funny.
“Damien was very easy to get on with and had lots of friends. He would get on well with anyone he met.
“He was very close to his mother who sadly died a few months back, which leads me to believe ultimately he died of a broken heart.
“Damien was a good-hearted man and honest. He had a few demons but who doesn’t?
“In the five years we were together, and up until he died, he was my soulmate and I will miss him as I’m sure many will.”
Mr Walker’s death is not being treated as suspicious and an inquest is expected to be held at a later date.
