AT just nine years old, Emily Carey has already begun her professional acting career after landing a role in the smash hit West End production Shrek The Musical.
Emily, of Newgate Road, St Leonards, has started her six-month run at the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane, in the role of Young Shrek after auditioning along with 100s of other children.
As well as playing Young Shrek, Emily also performs the role of Grumpy and is an understudy to Young Fiona.
Emily said: “It’s really fun doing Shrek and everyone in the cast is really nice.
“I have to wear a lot of makeup and prosthetics- I do about 3 shows a week. My school and my friends and teachers are really supportive and excited for me.”
A pupil at Claremont Preparatory School, Emily has been performing since the age of five and has appeared in Holby City and Eastenders as well as numerous Hastleons productions and professional pantomimes at The White Rock Theatre.
She is a regular performer in Claremont School’s O’Byrne theatre, most recently playing Alice in Alice in Wonderland.
Claremont School principal Mark Beaumont said: “Emily is one of the most talented pupils we have had at Claremont in recent years and we are delighted with her latest success.”
Emily studies Musical theatre and Drama at the Silverlee Stage School and ballet with Nicola Rodmell, and sings at The Mad Fish Singing Studios where she was awarded a scholarship at the East Sussex Talent Show.
