Sussex Police, Hastings Borough Council and Hastings Motorcycles have teamed up in a bid to prevent motorbikes being stolen across the borough.
Owners of motorbikes of between 50cc and 125cc are being offered the chance to buy a Sword Chain and Blaster Padlock for £5, instead of the usual price of £39.99.
A total of 50 of the padlock chains are available at the heavily discounted price on a first come, first served basis.
Anyone interested should go to the front office at Hastings Police Station in Bohemia Road, taking with them their V5 document, certificate of insurance and driving licence and they will be given a voucher to exchange at Hastings Motorcycles in Beaconsfield Road. The front office is open from Monday to Saturday, between 9am and 8pm.
Sergeant Dave Townsend, from Hastings neighbourhood policing team, said: “This is just one of the many options we are using to reduce the number of motorcycle thefts in our town. Only recently we’ve worked with local business JS Gedge of Silchester Road and Old London Road which has supplied a 125cc motorcycle that we are currently using as a bait bike across hotspot areas. The neighbourhood policing team is working hard to educate, especially young riders, about crime prevention techniques to prevent them from becoming victims of crime.”
