A borough councillor has paid tribute to actor Bob Hoskins, who died on Tuesday (April 29).

Cllr Godfrey Daniel met the star of Who Framed Roger Rabbit and The Long Good Friday, when he came to Hastings in May 2009 to open Cafe des Arts in Robertson Street.

The actor died aged 71 after a bout of pneumonia.

Cllr Daniel said: “It was a privilege to meet Bob Hoskins when he opened the Café des Arts in May 2009. He was one of nature’s gentlemen and such a gifted actor. The news of his death will sadden all those all who came into contact with him.”
