Charity champion Josh Bishop is set to take on one of the toughest UK endurance challenges to raise funds for a young woman who suffers from cerebal palsy.

The fearless 18-year-old from Bexhill has signed up for the Ironman triathlon later next Sunday in Lancashire.

He is raising money for Anna McNaughton, aged 27, from Bexhill who needs a new communication device called a Liberator which costs around £9,000.

Josh is no stranger to fundraising. He ran the Hastings Half Marathon for Anna in March and last year he swam across the channel, raising more than £10,000 for a coach to transport Ugandan orphans to school.

The Bexhill College student will tackle a 2.4 mile swim followed by a 112 mile cycle and finishing with a 26.2 mile marathon run.

These activities have to be completed in succession within 17 hours. Josh knows Anna through Anna’s father. Josh plays guitar in a band and has played at a couple of mini festivals with Anna’s father who is also a musician.

Ironman UK is is taking place in and around the hills and countryside of Bolton.

Josh’s efforts have earned him the Outstanding Young Person of the Month Award for June sponsored by the Hastings Observer Series and Sussex Coast College Hastings.

Dan Shelley, vice principal enterprise, employment and skills at Sussex Coast College Hastings, said: “Josh is inspirational. As well as being totally focused on the triathlon, he’s been busy taking his A level exams, plus he’s a swimming teacher.

“We wish him luck with the triathlon and are looking forward to hearing hear how he gets on.”

As part of his award, Josh will receive a complimentary meal for two and £100 towards Anna’s fund.
