Train services between Hastings, Bexhill and Eastbourne have been thrown into disarray.
A collapsed drain underneath one of the tracks in St Leonards shut the line down late this morning (Thursday) at around 10.30am.
Southern, which runs trains between Hastings, Bexhill, Eastbourne and London Victoria, is arranging for a rail replacement bus service to be put into operation for passengers and trains were cancelled.
Train shuttles are also running between Hastings and Ashford International.
Chris Denham, spokesman for Network Rail, which maintain’s the UK’s railways, said the drain partially collapsed under tracks on the line going towards Bexhill. Engineers are currently on site.
Trains also stopped running between Robertsbridge and Hastings at lunchtime following a landslip.
Train operator Southeastern said the landslip happened in the Battle area at around 1.45pm.
Buses will run between Robertsbridge and Hastings, extending journey times by up to 30 minutes.
