FIREFIGHTING in the Hastings borough has been dealt a bitter blow after a decision was made to today reduce the way The Ridge station is manned with with the loss of 20 jobs.
East Sussex Fire & Rescue Authority yesterday decided to turn the station into a day crewed centre in a bid to save the serivce £7m over the next few years.
It comes just 18 months after the station was saved from closure during a huge campaign from supporters.
Hastings councillor Phil Scott, who sits on the authority and voted against the proposals, said: “This is a very bitter pill to swallow.”
