A BRAVE Hastings man recovering from treatment for cancer is set to take part in an epic cycle challenge on Sunday, August 10, in aid of St Michael’s Hospice.

Peter Gaimster will cycle 100 miles during the Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100 event, which follows the route made famous at the London 2012 Olympics, despite having had two major, but successful, operations to treat a rare sarcoma in his leg.

When he was first diagnosed with a sarcoma, he was told that he could possibly lose his leg or have to walk with a stick for the rest of his life. He said: “My cancer is treated but there is a strong possibility that it could return.

“My training and daily visits to the gym are part of my rehabilitation and help me to remain positive. This is a huge personal challenge but I’m determined to keep training hard and can’t wait for the race in August.”

Marcia Dart, fundraising team leader at St Michael’s Hospice, said: “We are absolutely amazed by Peter’s dedication and strength of mind, he is a real inspiration.”
