THE ambitious plan to create a village green in Ore has been discussed at an open meeting on Saturday (June 14).
Ore Community Land Trust and Ore Valley Action have previously campaigned for years to save Speckled Wood from development, and to improve the woodland valley.
The trust is now putting its energies into a proposal for a village green on the land behind the current council-managed Green and the Salvation Army Hall. Ian Sier, chairman of Ore Community Land Trust, said: “Ore Community Land Trust conceived the idea for a village green for Ore village some years ago. Many local people think it would be of great community benefit and we are determined to develop this project and seek the more views and ideas about what a village green could provide.” The group has said Ore is seriously lacking in accessible open space, areas for children to play and disability access to green spaces. It also hopes to build a small ‘amphitheatre’ style outdoor performance space for social events.
Saturday’s information and consultation event for the proposed village green was held at the Salvation Army Hall, Old London Road.
