A SCHOOLGIRL had a surprise visit from Xtrax mascot Mufti the monkey before Christmas, who presented her with a huge cheque for £50.
Seven-year-old Alisha Sunders’ mum, of Edinburgh Road, St Leonards, had bought her and her sister a balloon in September and it, together with 399 other balloons were released at the end of a week of fundraising events, all to raise much-needed money for Xtrax young people’s charity.
All the balloons carried a simple message to email the owner of the balloon if found, with the furthest winning a £50 prize.
Xtrax manager Andrew Batsford said: “It was an amazing sight as all 400 balloons flew off over the castle on a very windy Saturday. I want to say a huge thank you to all the people who bought a balloon, but there could only be one winner and I could not believe how far it travelled.
“The balloon made an amazing 700-mile journey down to the Atlantic coast of France and we received an email from a French gentleman explaining he had found one of our balloons, in Meschers-sur-Gironde.”
