Academy is highest performer in Hastings for GCSEs

HELENSWOOD Academy is the top performing secondary school in Hastings for GCSE results, according to Government league tables published this week.

The school, which became an ARK academy last year, saw 56 per cent of students at achieve five A* to C grades at GCSE, including English and maths in 2013.

Overall, 90 per cent of students at Helenswood achieved 5A* to Cs at GCSE - above the national average of 82 per cent.

Several Helenswood students achieved stellar results in last year’s GCSE exams.

Students included Charlotte Cavie who got four A*s, five As and one B, Emma Browning with four A*s, four As and three Bs, and Hannah Hall, who achieved three 3A*s, six As and one B.

Lucy Monk, principal at Helenswood Academy, said: “I’m thrilled at what our students achieved last year – they did us, and themselves, proud.

“It means that Helenswood has started life as an ARK academy on a really strong footing.

“We’re confident that things are only going to get better from here, and are excited about what the future holds for our pupils.”

Helenswood became an academy last September.
