Winter expected to return with a bang
WINTER is set to return with a bang this weekend with snow and freezing cold temperatures expected across 1066 Country.
The Met Office has issued an amber warning, the second highest, for drivers and commuters to take care as an icy blast was due to arrive today.
The Met Office forecast for the south east region today reads: “Snow becoming widespread through the morning and continuing through the afternoon and evening, with further accumulations and a risk of disruption.
Hastings borough meteorologist David Powell said: “There could be snow fall of up to four inches with some falling on low ground today.
“There will be some snow and sleet showers over the weekend which will remaining very cold with ground and air frosts overnight and not very high maximum during the day.
“There will be a cold south east wind tomorrow easing later.”
Alison Nolan, spokeswoman for Southeastern, said: “Given the weather forecast, there may be disruption on some routes through Friday.
“Staff will be on hand throughout the weekend to clear platforms and treat icy surfaces and Network Rail will be running snow and ice clearance trains day and night to help keep the network open.
“We’re advising all passengers to check before travelling to see if train times have been altered, allow plenty of extra time and take extra care on the slippery roads and footpaths.”
Southern is running an amended timetable today.
Chris Hudson, spokesman for Southern, said: “Passengers travelling into and out of London may be affected during today.”
