Val retires after almost 50 years

A WARD sister on the Critical Care Unit at the Conquest Hospital has retired after almost 50 years service to the NHS.

Val Nealer, pictured third from left, started as a cadet nurse in September 1963 aged 16, and then began her general nurse training in May 1965, moving around the Royal East Sussex (RESH), St Helens, Bexhill and Buchanan Hospitals. She then moved to critical care nursing, and helped in the unit’s move to the Conquest in 1992.
