Two arrested over Hastings Pier

Police have arrested two people following this morning's fire in Hastings Pier.

An 18-year-old and a 19-year-old, both from St Leonards, were arrested shortly after a local raised the alarm at 1am this morning.

They are currently being quized by police at Hastings Police Station but both have yet to be charged.

Seafront roads were closed while eight fire crews battled the blaze and, as the smoke billowed across the promenade, police moved the gathered crowds back almost to the edge of Claremont and Robertson Street.

Detective Inspector Emma Heater said: "We would like to thank members of the public for their patience, understanding and co-operation while we continue to manage the scene and investigate the fire."
