Tributes to hit-and-run victim

Colleagues have paid tribute to a cyclist who was killed in a hit and run incident last Friday.

Franco Sicurella, 27, of Hyde Road, was knocked down by a car on Lottbridge Drove at about 10.10pm.

Franco, who was part Italian and part Venezuelan, had worked at Gardners Books since September.

A spokesperson from Gardners Books said, "Everyone is saddened to hear of the loss of our friend and colleague Franco Sicurella on the evening of July 20.

"We would like to express our sincere condolences to his family and friends and let them know that our thoughts are with them.

"He was very well liked - a lovely lad."

Mr Sicurella had been riding home from a shift at the firm when the accident happened, the Herald understands.

Four men arrested in connection with the collision have been bailed for further enquiries.

Inspector Phil Clarke, Road Policing Unit, Haywards Heath, is asking witnesses or anybody with information, to contact him on 0845 60 70 999, quoting Operation Mahler.

He added, "We would still like to hear from anybody who witnessed the collision or has any other information that might assist to contact us.

"In particular, police would like to hear from anybody who saw anyone with or near a dark coloured Vauxhall Astra, with accident damage, that had been left in the car park near the Sovereign Harbour Yacht Club later that evening or during the night."
