A MOTHER and son team are taking on the challenge of Peru’s famous Inca Trail, to raise money for a children’s charity.

Sandie Cox-Standen, 52, of Beauchamp Road, St Leonards, and son Bob Standen, 24, will this November be trekking to world-famous Macchu Picchu, all in aid of Make a Wish Foundation, which grants wishes to children and young people living with life threatening illnesses.

Sandie, a manager at East View Housing, which provides support to people with learning disabilities, said that she was spurred on to take up the challenge after hearing the story of a girl helped by the charity, whose only wish was to have her bedroom painted pink.

Despite never having walked at altitude before, or been camping, she has already embarked on a fitness programme, and said: “I am really committed, I will do this one way or another.”

Sandie and Bob aim to raise a whopping £7,500 in sponsorship before setting off on November 4, and have many ideas for fundraising events in the coming months.

She said that her son, a blacksmith and engineer, was also enthusiastic about the challenge: “Bob has always said that if he won the lottery he would give up his job and work for Make a Wish Foundation.”
