Top cop takes up temporary role as superintendent

THE TOP police officer for Hastings has taken over a role as superintendent for neighbourhood policing in East Sussex.
Chief inspector Heather Keating has stepped up from her role as district commander for the Hastings borough.
She is acting up in place of superintendent Neil Honnor who is covering for chief superintendent Robin Smith.
Supt Smith is attending a senior command course at the Police Staff College in Bramshill, Hampshire.
Chief inspector Paul Phelps, 45, has taken over CI Keating’s role on a temporary basis until March 31.
It is expected that CI Keating will return to her role as Hastings district commander on April 1.
CI Phelps will then return to his previous role as neighbourhood and policing inspector for Hastings.
The father-of-three, who is from Hastings, began his career in 1992 as a beat bobby in Bexhill before moving to Hastings. He went on to rise through the ranks. Last year he moved back to Hastings as policing inspector and later became a chief inspector.
