Thrills and spills at Senlac Go-Cart Rally

THE sun shone on Sunday for the Annual Senlac District Cub Scout Go-Cart Rally.

The lucky break in the recent spell of poor weather produced a big turn-out and plenty of thrills and spills on the grassy playing fields of St Peter and St Paul School Church of England Primary School.

Some 22 teams from various packs around the district took part - almost double last year's entry. Each team consisted of three Cubs and one adult, who acted as team manager.

There were three separate events, where the teams were scored on their own merits against the clock, not necessarily against each other.

These were Speed Pursuit, Obstacle Race and Downhill Push-and-Go.

There were a couple of small accidents that were ably taken care of by the Eastbourne District Scout First Aid Team, who were in attendance.

Whilst the scores were being tallied, one of the most popular events took place - the team managers' race!

Although this doesn't attract a score which is included in the final result, the spectators enjoy seeing the look of terror in the eyes of the drivers!

Due to the high standard of the competitors, the final scores were very close, there being only four points separating each of the top four places.

The winning team was 3rd Bexhill Raksha, 3rd Bexhill Darzee came second and 3rd Bexhill Raksha a very close third.

Senlac's thanks go out to St Peter and St Paul School for allowing them to stage the event in their wonderful grounds, the First Aid Team from Eastbourne, without whose cover it would not have been possible to run the event, Assistant County Commissioner Martin Piggott who came from Brighton to be with Senlac and Madeline and Angela for their impartiality in the scoring.
