The seaside is brought to Shoreditch

THROUGHOUT February, the work of Hastings’ creative community will be on sale in the trendiest part of London.

Tasting Hastings sees a collection of 16 artists and designers offering their wares at the YCN Shop and Library, in Shoreditch.

This venture was the brainchild of local lighting designer Phillip Oakley, of The Admiral Benbow, in London Road, St Leonards. He said: “The aim is to present a positive picture of Hastings to people in London. I find it incredible that people don’t know anything about Hastings and yet it’s not that far away.”

The group will be offering a range of products for sale, from Bruce Robbins’ upholstered furniture to Judith Rowe’s pottery, to Leigh Dyer’s metalwork.

YCN has also collaborated with some of the town’s local manufacturers to create a range of new products, including natural cosmetics and traditional seaside sweets.

YCN curator Lucy Kenyon said: “We visited Hastings last year as a team, and were dazzled by the output of its artists and designers.

“Hastings is one of the most curious and charming of England’s seaside towns. It’s an honour to host this group, and we hope to please as many people as possible with their products.”

All products can bought from the YCN Shop and Library, 72 Rivington Street, from February 6 to 29.
