Sophia Powell, Kris Murrel and Jodie Manser came second in the South East regional finals of the UK Student Chef team challenge organised by catering firm Brakes Group.
The team out-cooked students from Sussex Downs College, West Kent College, Mid Kent College and City College Brighton and Hove. But winners Thanet College were just too hot to handle on the day.
Jonathan Emson, chef lecturer at the college said: “The competition is a great opportunity for students to gain working knowledge and experience of the pressures of being a chef in a professional kitchen.”
Rob Emson, who manages front-of-house for the college’s restaurant, Coast, said: “The students did very well and we are entering them into another two competitions this year.’
Competition Judge Christopher Basten, Executive Chef at the London Marriott County Hall, said: “The food and hospitality sector is very competitive.
“The Team Challenge is a fantastic way to help nurture and develop the talent of young chefs who could one day be cooking in top establishments around the country.”
