Superb Seafood Festival success

SUNSHINE, sizzling seafood and foot-tapping music were the perfect recipe for yet another superbly successful Hastings Seafood and Wine Festival at the weekend.

Hastings Council estimate an amazing 50,000 people poured into the Old Town for the event - now in its third year.

"It was fabulous. It all went perfectly, " said a delighted spokesman.

The festivities began on Saturday morning with the Walking the Fish procession, featuring local children parading with delicate fish models along the seafront to The Stade venue.

A delicious aroma of barbecued food wafted round the site attracting yet more people in.

There was a mouthwatering selection of first class seafood including giant grilled prawns, tasty fish stews, creamy chowders, and curries to die for.

Tasters of something a little different were also on offer varying from squid in lemon to mackerel and beetroot.

Meanwhile cooking demonstrations from top chefs provided inspiration for visitors who wanted to recreate dishes at home.

It was a true culinary celebration of the wonderful fresh, healthy food available from the sea.

Meat and vegetarian options were provided as well for those who preferred them, as well as cakes, olives, cheeses, and other produce.

Wines and beers were also on sale and available for tasting.

A host of lively feel-good entertainment seasoned the event with bands, musicians and dancers.

The ever-popular Punch and Judy show on the beach wowed the little ones and a jazz breakfast event was served up on Sunday morning.

Fish shops and restaurants around the town also joined in the festival celebrations with stunning displays and special tasters on offer.
