Shop manager in Ore doing skydive for charity

A shop manager is jumping into action from 10,000 feet to raise vital funds for charity.

Laurence Hernandez from the Co-operative Food store in Fairlight Road, Ore is hoping his adrenaline-boosting tandem skydiving at Headcorn airfield in Kent on Sunday July 11 will raise 350 for RNID's Hear to Help service.

He said: "The Co-operative is supporting Royal National Institute for the Deaf as our charity of the year to help change the world for the nine million people in the UK who are deaf or hard of hearing.

"I'm looking forward to the challenge of a breath-taking skydiving experience and raising as much money as possible for RNID's Hear to Help projects, which are doing fantastic work reducing isolation for people with a hearing loss."

Hear to Help trains volunteers, many of whom have a hearing loss and can understand the impact it can have on someone's life, to provide support to hearing aid users in their local communities.

RNID trained volunteers show people how to maintain and get the best performance from their hearing aids, as well as providing vital advice on hearing equipment for the home so that they can live a full an active life.

With the support of its members and customers, The Co-operative aims to raise more than 2 million in 2009 for RNID with the goal of transforming Hear to Help into a service reaching more than 18,000 people each year.

To sponsor Laurence's skydiving for RNID, speak to staff in-store at 4-6 Fairlight Road, Ore.
