Secondary school league tables show mixed results

PARKWOOD Sixth Form ranks among the top state schools and colleges in the county for average A/AS level points per pupil.

Official figures published yesterday (Thursday) put Helenswood and William Parker Sports College at third and fourth position, with 741.9 and 704.4 points respectively.

The results are listed separately despite the sixth form operating as a single entity.

A-level grade A* scores 300 points, A scores 270, B scores 240, C scores 210, D scores 180, and E scores 150.

Sussex Coast College was shown languishing near the bottom of the table compared to other schools and colleges in the county with 516.3 points per pupil.

Uckfield Community Technology College came top in the county for A/AS level points, with 767.8.

With regards to GCSE results, Helenswood was the best performing school in Hastings and St Leonards, and ranked 10th of the state schools in the county, with 65 per cent of pupils gaining five good GCSEs.

The St Leonards Academy (50 per cent) and The Hastings Academy (47 per cent), came in the bottom half of the table when compared to other schools in East Sussex.

William Parker Sports College came bottom of the table for East Sussex, and also in the bottom 200 state schools in the country for GCSE attainment.

Only 33 per cent of students gained five good GCSE passes in 2012.

St Richards Catholic College, in Bexhill, came top of the state schools for East Sussex, with 75 per cent of pupils gaining five good GCSE grades.
