Second fire on Hastings Pier this morning
Hastings Pier caught light again in the early hours of this morning.
As reported on our website yesterday, a giant crane was put in place near the pier to help make safe parts that were still dangerous and threatening to collapse.
That work began at around 6.30pm and by 9.30pm a copper dome which had formed the roof of one of the turrets at the entrance to the pier was dealt with.
The emergency services then left the pier - which was manned by staff from local security firm Phoenix to stop people heading onto the structure.
However, fire flared up at around 4.50am and worsened. East Sussex Fire and Rescue were subsequently called back to the attraction to tackle the blaze from the beach.
This second fire was put out and by 7.10am the fire fighting teams could once again pull back.
There were thought further collapses of buildings on the pier into the sea.
The A259 seafront road was temporarily closed again, but has now re-opened.
