Rye Scouts celebrate 100 years

RYE Scouts presented the Mayor with a special neckerchief this week.

The presentation was made by members of 1st Rye Captain Cory's Own as part of its centenary celebrations.

The neckerchief bore the group's name, county and district badge and was gratefully accepted by Mayor Sam Souster.

Scouts leader William Perfitt said: "This is a symbol of the group's past, present and future commitment to being active citizens of the Rye community from whom we have received much valued support over the past 100 years."

Addressing the Mayor, he said: "We will be giving you a woggle so that you can wear it when you feel it is appropriate."

Cllr Souster said: "We are really privileged to have such an active scout group here in Rye."
