Rail engineers remove and replace bridge
ENGINEERS spent the weekend replacing an old railway bridge in St Leonards.
The bridge on Bexhill Road, just before the junction with Filsham Road, was completely dismantled before a new one built, which has been increased in height.
Part of the main line to Brighton and London was closed between Hastings and Bexhill over the weekend while the work was carried out and part of Bexhill Road was closed to traffic the previous two weekends to prepare for the engineering works.
Jon Crampton, spokesman for Network Rail, said: “The rail bridge on Bexhill Road was replaced over the weekend as part of our ongoing maintenance and improvement of the railway. Bexhill Road was closed between midnight on Saturday and reopened at 1am on Monday morning.
“A further closure was needed between 9pm on Tuesday and 6am on Wednesday to complete the work.
“We have increased the height of the bridge which will reduce the risk of vehicle impacts and thank local people for their patience while we carried out the work.”
