Pop star to play lead role in this year's panto

A former pop star has been unveiled as the star of this year's pantomime at the White Rock Theatre.

Jon Lee hit the top of the charts as part of pop sensation S Club 7 - the band formed from the cast of the popular childrens TV show of the same name.

Now the talented actor is set to wow audiences in Hastings after being announced as the lead role in this year's panto - a new production of Peter Pan.

After leaving S Club 7, Jon set out building his acting career and was rewarded with a two year run as Marius in Les Miserables and starred as Oliver Twist in Cameron Mackintosh's original West End production at the London Palladium.

Taking a break from more high-brow acting, Jon says he can't wait to get cracking into panto and the producers are confident Peter Pan will be the best show in Hastings for years.

Julian Chenery and Jamie Wilson have a wealth of experience and have teamed up, according to Julian, because they share "a love of panto and an annoyance at panto being done wrong."

Speaking at the show's official launch this week Julian vowed: "This is going to be the best pantomime to hit Hastings in years.

"Myself and Jamie are passionate about pantomime and are determined to deliver a five star cast and show to the people of Hastings."

As well as Jon Lee, the producers have managed to secure the talents of St Leonards funnyman Steve Furst in the comic role of Captain Smee. The star of Little Britain and the popular Orange mobile phone adverts, Steve also fronts the hugely successful Laugh It Up comedy night in the Old Town and is guaranteed to bring laughs galore to the show.

As well as a star cast, audiences can look forward to a fantastic revolving set described by theatre bosses as "like Thunderbirds Tracy Island on a stage".

There will also be local dancers, more than 20 local children filling key roles as lost boys and a number of acting workshops for youngsters to join in before sitting through weekend performances.

Organisers have also set aside special Office Christmas Party shows and has set up a website (www.peterpanhastings.com) which will provide fans with up-to-the-minute news about the show and cast.

Peter Pan runs from Wednesday December 10 until Sunday January 4 at The White Rock Theatre. Tickets are on sale now from the Box Office on 0870 145 11 33.
