Police operation to stop drugs coming into town
HASTINGS police and British Transport Police (BTP) carried out a two-day operation to disrupt those bringing drugs into the area, stopping people as they arrived by train.
During Operation Harman on February 28 and March 1, officers were in place at St Leonards Warrior Square and Hastings train stations with passive drug dog, Olly, who is trained by the BTP to sniff out anyone with a drugs scent on their body.
Local PCSOs were present to offer reassurance to members of the public and explain what was happening.
During the operation 70 people were stopped and searched. Fourteen of those were dealt with for possession of controlled substances namely street warnings for possession of cannabis, and fines.
Sergeant Simon Yates from Hastings neighbourhood policing team said: “Operation Harman was well executed and reinforces the message that drugs will not be tolerated on our streets.
“Due to its success we will be doing this again in the near future. Olly, the passive drug dog was fantastic and is an asset to the service.”
