Pier trust urges locals to only give cash to card carriers

CAMPAIGNERS fighting to save Hastings Pier from the scrap-heap are urging well-meaning locals to only give donations to card-carrying collectors.

Members of the Hastings Pier and White Rock Trust (HPWRT) are busy fundraising in a effort to secure the £250,000 needed to secure the structure’s charred remains through winter.

And so far their efforts have added more than £10,000 to the group’s fighting fund - including £176 from a recent night at Venuu in George Street.

However, the trust revealed this week that several people had been seen round town asking for donations on its behalf.

Lesley Davis, trustee, urged people to only give cash to volunteers who could show a HPWRT badge.

She said: “We have not received these donations and anyone working on our behalf will have a card with their name and trust details or a headed signed letter from me. If neither of these are given then I am afraid they have nothing to do with the trust.”

Anyone who wants to help collect money for the trust should call 07913664163.
