Pier trust seeking a new administrator

THE Hastings Pier and White Rock Trust is seeking to appoint a second full-time member of staff as it works towards securing the future of the famous landmark.

The trustees want to install an administrator to work under its new chief executive Simon Opie who started in November.

Mr Opie has helped draw up a detailed job description for the role which is being funded by money secured under the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

The role is expected to start next month and will run until at least July 31.

Candidates are expected to be passionate about Hastings, especially the restoration of the pier.

They need to have some experience of managing volunteers and first-line financial management.

Working closely with Mr Opie in an office space at the town hall, the administrator will be the first point of contact for the Pier Group and will manage communications with the media and general enquiries.

One of the key roles will be working with Mr Opie on preparing the round two submission for the HLF for June 25.

Trustee Lesley Davies said there has been extensive interest already.

She said: “We are looking for someone who has Hastings in their veins and is determined to help restore the pier to its former glory.

“Local knowledge would be a distinct priority and we have had quite a few people express an interest already which is very encouraging.

“We won’t expect the candidate to be able to do everything at once but be competent in several areas. If we can secure the funding the role could be extended into 2013 when we expect to taken over the pier which promises to be a very exciting time for the trust.”

To apply for the job visit www.hpwrt.co.uk/jobs or ask at the White Rock Hotel for an application form.
