Pensioner left traumatised after pet dog attacked

A PENSIONER was left traumatised after his pet dog was savaged by a pitbull-type dog left off its leash.

The attack happened just before 1pm on Thursday (Jan 10) when a small Welsh Terrier was set upon by a large sandy coloured pitbull-type dog in Gensing Gardens, St Leonards

The owner of the pitbull type dog was believed to have been signing on at the nearby Heron House job centre in London Road at the time of the attack and is thought to have left the dog with friends outside.

Members of the public had to use extreme force over several minutes to detach the pitbull from the Terrier. The pitbull was then seen to leave the area with its owner.

The 70-year-old man who owns the terrier suffered cuts to his hands and was left badly shaken by the experience. The terrier had a serious abdominal wound and required emergency treatment before recovering.

PC Damon Deans-Cane said: ”We are very keen to trace dog, its owner, and the people who were in charge of the dog at the time.

Witnesses and anyone with information can call 101 quoting serial 0583 of 10 January.
