Pebsham youths hot for Chill Zone

YOUNG people in Pebsham are celebrating the launch of a youth club which will give them somewhere to meet and to enjoy a host of boredom-banishing activities.

Aimed at 11 to 17-year-olds, the club - dubbed the Chill Zone - opened on Thursday, February 28 at Pebsham Community Centre in Seabourne Road.

It featured a music and pizza night and was well supported by both youngsters and adults who have helped to create and finance the amenity.

Jeannie Prince, club founder, said: "We were thrilled to see it so well supported and want to thank everyone who has helped to bring it to fruition."

Youngsters themselves got involved in helping to secure a Youth Opportunities funding bid worth just under 1,500.

And Sussex Police, whose Rother district commander Chief Inspector Heather Keating attended the launch, has contributed six months' premises rent.

Domino's Pizza supplied free meals for Thursday's event and manager Danny Okines is keen to give further support to future activities.

Among others present were Paul White from Bexhill Youth Centre, who is to be the club's chairman for a year; Richard Harding, of the Youth Development Service, and several local politicians.

Councillor Charlie Clark, who lives in Pebsham and represents St Michael's Ward as an independent, said: "It's something young people here have needed for a long time and I am giving it my full support."

The Chill Zone offers a place to meet, play pool, enjoy sports and cooking activities and much more.

Admission is 1 per session, which will be held every Thursday from 7pm to 9pm.

Jeannie Prince can be contacted for further information or offers of additional funding on 07908 971009.
