Not the End of the Pier CD showcases local talent
Andy Gunton and Ian Edwards
RISING from the ashes of Hastings Pier sprouts yet another seed of optimism in the form of a vibrant charity CD.
Not The End Of The Pier grew after a Facebook page, set up by local musician Ian Edwards, attracted the attention of other local bands and artists.
Andy Gunton, chairman of Hastings Rock Radio Station, who said he “had always set his sights on releasing a local compilation CD” took up the project.
“Now seems like the perfect time to not only promote the wealth of talented local bands, young and old, but also to raise money towards the restoration of the pier,” he said.
With all the proceeds going towards Hastings Pier and White Rock Trust (HPWRT), the CD will feature 15 tracks written and performed by a number of local musicians, some of which performed on the pier before its destruction. Artists include Logan Wilson Band, Soul Sanctuary, Arivmia, Dr Fonda, Keith Foster, The Cajun Dawgs, Red Diesel, The Vindickers, King Bathmat and Rich Lown.
The album artwork, Mr Gunton revealed, will be designed by Ian Edwards and is to feature “a photograph of the pier in the snow and another of the pier burning down”.
To accompany the CD are a number of Not The End Of The Pier events held at venues across the town.
Last night, Lily Foster and her husband Keith hosted a gig at Venuu in St George’s Street, featuring Logan Wilson Band, Adeline, Keith himself and others.
Claire Hamill will host an event at the Crown House, St Leonards, on December 12 featuring Shady Pines, Peter O’Donnell, Jenny Jane, Decimus, Claire herself and others. A main event held at the White Rock Theatre has also been proposed for the New Year.
Perhaps the most positive aspect of the project is the enthusiasm of the artist being featured on the CD
Luke Gibson, of Soul Sanctuary, said: “We were approached by Andy Gunton and were honoured to be asked for our contribution to the CD.
“Hopefully the CD will raise enough money to contribute to building a new pier.”
Rising star, Rich Lown, added: “I’m saddened by how such an iconic piece of history in Hastings could be destroyed.
“I thought it was a great idea to release a CD in support of the pier.”
Mr Gunton would like to see the project flourish and hopes even bigger industry names will get on board. The CD is due for release at the end of the month.
