New carer project is ready for launch

A NEW project to create groups across Hastings and Rother to provide family carers will be launched on Thursday (February 16).

The Association of Carers is launching its Peer Support project at the Isobel Blackman Centre in Winding Street in Hastings Old Town.

Funded by The Lloyds TSB Foundation, the project will see the creation of groups across Hastings and Rother with the aim of providing family carers.

It will also allow them to come together and share their experiences of caring in a supportive and creative environment.

There will be activities led by volunteers for those who care so that they can attend as well if they cannot be left at home or would like to come along.

Staff and volunteers from the Association of Carers will be available to give carers an opportunity to discuss how they would like the groups to work and the sort of activities they would enjoy doing.

The first group to run will be a series of art workshops with an exhibition of the work created on display at the centre during June.

The launch starts at 1pm and a free lunch will be prided.

Carers interested in attending can contact outreach project Sarah Bleach by Monday (February 13). Questionnaires can also be requested by those who cannot attend the launch event by calling 01424 722309.
