MORE than a dozen young men took part in a ceremony at the Town Hall to enlist into the Army.

MORE than a dozen young men took part in a ceremony at the Town Hall to enlist into the Army.

The 15 recruits, from Hastings, St Leonards, Bexhill, Eastbourne and Hailsham, swore their Oaths of Allegiance at the event on Thursday, September 6.

The men, aged between 16 and 25, participated in an entry Attestation Parade, a traditional ceremony in front of friends and family, the Mayor of Hastings, councillor Alan Roberts, and senior Army officials.

They will now embark on a 42-week training course, where they will go through military, leadership and vocational training, helping them to gain the soldiering skills they need before moving to their selected regiments.

Jack O’Hara, who is 16, is from St Leonards, and will be joining the Coldstream Guards.

He said: “It was a special feeling to have pledged my oath to the Queen and to have officially entered the Army. While I do have a few nerves, I’m really excited and can’t wait to get training, as joining the Army really is my dream job.”

Major Steve Ansell RMP said: “I was very proud to there to see these young people take their oath of allegiance and to meet the families and friends who shared this special occasion.

“It marks the beginning of what I know will be an exciting and rewarding Army career for them, with plenty of opportunities for travel, training, sport and promotion, and I sincerely wish them well in their chosen field and all their future endeavours.”
