A CONSULTATION exercise will be held tomorrow (SAT) to discuss a new playground for West St Leonards.

Ambitious plans to raise up to £120,000 are being launched by a strong, resident-led group.

It follows initial discussions between Dee Spears, Bexleigh Avenue Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator, councillor Mike Howard, West St Leonards ward representative and council officers.

The consultation will take place at West St Leonards Children’s Centre in Bexhill Road from 2pm to 4pm.

Independent charity, Hastings Trust, is helping the Neighbourhood Watch group to form a resident association which will then be supported by the council to source external funds and deliver the project.

Cllr Howard, said: “We are going to try and fundraise £60,000 to £120,000 towards the project from charities and charitable trusts.

“It all started when local resident, Dee Spears, approached me last May about the lack of play provision in the area. After further investigation, I realised she was right.

“Local residents, the local Neighbourhood Watch group, Hastings Borough Council’s Play Hastings and Open Space teams, staff and parents at the West St Leonards Children’s Centre and Hastings Trust are all keen to work in partnership to achieve a new play provision in the area.

“West St Leonards residents should look out for the consultation flyers for the event that will be distributed in roads and schools that are nearby to Combe Valley Country Park.

“This is in the hope that local children, young people and their families will help to shape the content and location of a proposed new play space.

They can either fill in the questionnaire on the leaflet or visit www.hastings.gov.uk/community_living/sports_recreation/play/playspaceproposal/ to take part in the consultation online.”
