New drop-in clinic for childhood vaccines

PARENTS in town can now take their children to a weekly drop-in clinic for their childhood immunisations.

The clinic runs from 9.30am to 11.30am on Fridays at St Leonards Children’s Centre, Fellowship of St Nicholas, in London Road, St Leonards.

No appointment is needed and babies and children can be given their routine vaccinations when they are due, or if they have previously missed them.

Infectious diseases that the vaccinations protect against include diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, polio, meningitis C and measles, mumps and rubella.

Sarah Denman, health visitor staff nurse, said: “Children are usually given their vaccinations at their GP surgery and while this works well, some parents prefer the flexibility of a drop-in clinic rather than needing to make an appointment.

“Getting your child vaccinated is one of the most important things a parent can do, it’s the most effective way of keeping them protected against infectious diseases.”

More information is available from the NHS Choices website at www.nhs.uk. A campaign to encourage more parents to get their children vaccinated with the MMR was recently launched.
