MP happy to support the Heathrow Airplot! protest

EASTBOURNE MP Nigel Waterson has been congratulated by local Greenpeace campaigners after becoming a beneficial owner of Airplot!, the piece of land owned by Greenpeace and Emma Thompson at the centre of the site of the proposed runway at Heathrow.

The local activists have been campaigning around Eastbourne and talking to the public and gardeners about climate change and airport expansion.

Many gardeners are seeing the impacts of climate change for themselves first hand and over 100 of them were so concerned they signed up to become beneficial owners of the land themselves, and asked Nigel Waterson MP to do the same.

The area around Heathrow airport, where the government proposes to build a third runway, has a colourful horticultural history and is the home of the Cox Pippin apple.

Nigel Waterson MP joins more than 50,000 others as beneficial owners of the plot.

Local Greenpeace activist Evie Sier said, "This is great news and Nigel Waterson MP deserves credit for recognising that expanding Heathrow airport seriously threatens our chances of tackling climate change."

Mr Waterson added, "It is Conservative policy to appose a third runway at Heathrow. So I am happy to give my support to this campaign."

The Eastbourne Greenpeace Campaign Group meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 8pm, in the Counting House, Moatcroft Road.
