Mountain of cash for air ambulance
SEAFORDand Newhaven Round Table has handed over a cheque for a staggering £15,000 to the crew and staff of the Sussex Air Ambulance.
The money was raised through sponsorship of a mountain climb on Slovenia's highest peak, Mount Triglav, in October 2007.
The Sussex Air Ambulance costs 1.5 million per year to provide an emergency helicopter to the people of Sussex.
With no government, lottery or NHS support, the life-saving service is entirely dependent on the community, especially groups, clubs, organisations and individuals who fundraise for it.
Flying at 150mph, the 3.5 million McDonnell Douglas helicopter can rapidly reach all over Sussex, deploying a specialist crew able to perform emergency trauma and even surgical procedures A patient can then be flown to the most suitable hospital for their condition far faster than any land based transport.
The 37-strong Round Table team, organised by Rob Blackman, raised the largest amount of money for the Sussex Air Ambulance of any group in 2007. The sponsored climb is one of many events the Seaford and Newhaven Round Table has embarked on, fulfilling its aims and objectives of raising funds for worthy charitable organisations and individuals.
