Light snow expected to turn heavier later

FLURRIES have left the town with a light covering of snow today (Friday), but forecasters predict more is on the way.

Heavier snowfalls are expected this afternoon and evening, with drivers being warned to take extra care. Gritters were out along main routes last night.

The Met Office has warned an accumulation of snow brings a risk of disruption. There will be bitter south-easterly winds, with drifting possible over hills.

The orange severe weather warning means there is likely to be widespread snow with a number of road closures, others passable only with care.

The forecast for tomorrow is possible light snow or sleet.
