Lifeboat volunteers rescue stricken yacht
A yacht drifting in the sea off Hastings at night was towed to safety by a lifeboat crew.
The 26ft vessel Pearletta, with three people on board, had lost its rudder three-and-a-half miles south west of the town on Wednesday night.
Hastings RNLI was alerted at 10pm and the lifeboat was launched, reaching the stricken yacht in half an hour.
Pearletta was then towed to Eastbourne Harbour, arriving just after 1am on Thursday morning.
Martin Phillips, Hastings lifeboat coxswain, praised the lifeboat crew who did not return to Hastings until 2.30pm.
"The RNLI asks a lot of our volunteer crews, not least when they are called out of their beds at a moments notice," he said.
"That night, in the best tradition of the lifeboat service, a full complement of crew and launchers turned out to help people were in trouble at sea."
