Bexhill & Battle MP Greg Barker with Diana Raine, Hydrogen Business Manager for Europe - Air Products

BEXHILL’s MP Greg Barker, the Climate Change Minister, got an early look at hydrogen transport technology while attending the Conservative party conference in Manchester.

Air Products’ hydrogen energy business manager for Europe, Diana Raine, showed him her company’s hydrogen fuelling station and Greg was also able to see Riversimple’s Mark One local car and the Intelligent Energy zero-emission ENV hydrogen fuel cell motorcycle.

Such emission-free technology is expected to be on British roads within the next four years, competing closely with conventional petrol and diesel vehicles in terms of speed, range and refuelling times.

Purchase price is also expected to be keen, with Suzuki’s hydrogen-powered Burgman motorscooter likely to cost less than 8,000 Euros when it is released in 2015.

Meanwhile, Greg has welcomed the government’s £11 million investment in new online and telephone services to help parents and families. Eleven voluntary and community organisations - including Relate, Netmums and Gingerbread - will provide support and advice on domestic and educational issues.
