Launch of new plan to help youth into work
BUSINESS leaders have thrown their weight behind a new initiative in Hastings and Rother to support young people’s employability.
The event, to be launched this month, is a campaign to challenge local businesses to pledge 1,066 ways of helping a young person from 1066 Country into work.
A number of partners including the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), the Observer Group, Chamber of Commerce and Sussex Coast College are collaborating around the campaign called Own Grown Investing in Young People Challenge 2013. Any employer can support this at any level, from giving a talk in a school, offering visits, work tasters or work experience, to taking on an apprentice.
Martin Searle, the local FSB development manager, said: “There are some basic work-based skills that young people need to be successful in today’s tough job markets. We want to see schools give these skills a higher priority in all teaching from an early stage. This is why we wholeheartedly support this initiative.”
For more information, ring Mr Searle on 07917 628932 or contact the FSB regional office on 01323 482018.
