Hastings Pier kills local wildlife
The huge fire on Hastings Pier has claimed the lives of a number birds.
Observer reader Michael Little, of Pelham Crescent, contacted us to tell how he found dead birds among the debris.
The pier had become home to hundreds of rats and dozens of pigeons while it lay empty and it is not yet known how many animals were killed in the blaze.
Mr Little said: "We may overlook the effect on wildlife, as we naturally respond to the loss of a much loved local building."
