GP appointment problems

A THIRD of those who took part in a survey conducted by Hastings and St Leonards Seniors’ Forum said they were not happy with the appointment system at their surgery.

A total of 160 shoppers in Priory Meadow last Thursday (January 24) filled in questionnaires as part of the Date with the Doc Survey and many flagged up problems with making appointments.

Some reported queuing at 8am at the surgery and then being told to go home and phone in later for an appointment. Others were upset at having to tell the receptionist their problem in front of a waiting room full of people before making an appointment.

Aubrey Ingleton, chairman of the forum’s health and social care group, said: “The survey went very well and we were pleased that so many shoppers stopped to take part.

“Billboards kindly provided by the Observer and with the words Date with the Doc Survey, drew people’s attention to our stand and members were kept very busy.

“Many people stopped for quite a long chat about how they had got on making appointments, some full of praise but others meeting worrying difficulties.

“The survey results will be collated and published later on as we are still in the process of conducting the survey.

“We will then take our report to the Clinical Commissioning Group.”

Leon Tuppen, editor of the forum’s newsletter which first drew attention to doctor appointment system problems, said: “We are asking members of the public to continue giving us their comments up to February 15 so that we can include these in our final survey result.”

Members of the public can register their comments by email at omniwatch24@hotmail.co.uk or write to HSSF, Freepost RSUK-TELG-TCGX, Jackson Hall, Portland Place, Hastings TN34 1QN.
