CYCLISTS of all ages are invited to get on their bikes for charity at an upcoming fundraiser.

St Leonards Rotary Club launched its annual Castle Cycle Challenge recently, more popularly known as On Yer Bike.

The event, which is in its 24th year, takes place on Sunday, April 29, starting and finishing at the RNLI lifeboat station.

Tony Leslie, president of St Leonards Rotary Club, together with Rotarians John Easter and Ray Howard, were at St Michael’s Hospice as part of the launch.

While there Mr Leslie handed over a cheque for £4,000, which makes the total received by the hospice from last year’s On Yer Bike event almost £6,000.

The hospice, based in Upper Maze Hill, St Leonards, also received £525 from collections at Tesco before Christmas, as did The Sara Lee Trust.

Cyclists have the choice of a 25-mile route to Pevensey Castle and return, or can tackle the more strenuous 40-mile route which proceeds from Pevensey Castle to Herstmonceux Castle and returns along the Rickney Marsh road.

This year riders will be able to use the new cycle path between Hastings and Bexhill which will cut out the Bexhill Road stretch of the route.

Entry is £8 (minimum) for adults and £2 for under 16s.

This year, the prize for the highest amount paid in by an adult will be a one-hour flying lesson, courtesy of Lydd Aero Club and for the under-16s a one-hour go-karting session at Lydd. All the proceeds raised from On Yer Bike will be divided between St Michael’s Hospice, Hastings RNLI and other charities.

Those wanting to take part can fill in the entry form in the Observer or entries can be made online at www.stleonardsrotary.org.
