GALLERY: Lifeguards' New Year Dip.

LIFEGUARDS braved freezing temperatures to fund the vital service they provide in Seaford.

The annual sponsored New Year dip has been running for almost as long as the group, which began in 1970.

Organisers are hoping it could generate as much as 450.

Seaford Lifeguards secretary Peggy Crossman said: 'It went very well. The dip has been going almost as long as the lifeguards have. It's become a good fundraising event.'

When the adventurous lifeguards leapt into the water, the temperature under the waves was nine degrees - while in the air it was minus two!

Peggy thanked everyone who donated money on Sunday.

The cash will be put into a fund for reserve equipment.

It costs about 5,000 a year to keep the group going and it is entirely funded by donations.

If anyone would like to volunteer or make a donation call Peggy on 01323 892827.
