Food poverty campaign launched

SUPERMARKET customers were invited to checkout a campaign to help tackle food poverty.

MP Amber Rudd joined the drive at Sainsbury’s off Sedlescombe Road to help spread the message of Fareshare, a national charity that tackles hunger and food waste across the UK.

The second annual ‘Million Meal Appeal’ took place at the supermarket earlier this month.

Last year’s appeal which took place on Saturday 26th November, was a huge success and involved 600 Sainsbury’s stores including Sedlescombe Road branch.

Customer donations saw 1.2 million meals donated nationally to the then 700 charities and projects which FareShare support.

Customers simply buy their items as normal at the checkout and leave a tin or packet in the food collection point at the end of the checkout area.
