A FATHER whose young daughter suffers from cystic fibrosis is about to enter the final stage of his triple charity challenge.

Darren Hall, 46, of Park Drive, is to run the London Marathon in April to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Last October he completed the Great South Run, and is due to take part in the Hastings Half-Marathon this month.

Darren’s three-year-old daughter Sophie has been in and out of hospital most of her life as a result of her condition, which affects her lungs and digestive system, and she requires regular medication and specialist treatment.

Sophie is currently in hospital in Eastbourne being treated with antibiotics for a bacterial infection.

Darren, who works for Orbit housing, took up fundraising when Sophie was diagnosed, and said: “It changes your perspective on life.

“Running is nothing compared to the challenges people with cystic fibrosis face in their day-to-day lives.”

He is currently training eight to nine hours a week, and said he has received huge support from his wife Kim, and five children.

There is a chance that cystic fibrosis sufferers may require a lung transplant at some stage, and Darren said: “We are looking for people to get on to the transplant list.

“It is such a simple thing to do for people to put their name down. That is one of the biggest things we are trying to do.”
